Loch Ness, Scottish Highlands The Loch Ness is a large, deep, freshwater loch. Many people believe it hides the Loch Ness monster, a long-surviving plesiosaurs. Vladimira Dvorakova / age fotostock;
Loch Ness, at the centre of the Highlands, is sumptuous. You will find locally a small museum retracing the various appearances of Nessie, the monster that is said to be living in the deep waters of the lake (985 ft deep). A bit further, the ruins of Urquhart Castle overlook the landscape. It is from this spot that you will have the most beautiful views of the lake.
