The Giant's Causeway, Northern Ireland A nature reserve and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Giant's Causeway is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic eruption Vladimira Dvorakova / age fotostock;
The Giant's Causeway should be seen first. This outstanding site offers not less than 37,000 basalt pillars, that solidified in regular hexagons during an eruption 60 million years ago. A shuttle takes you there directly from the Visitors Centre, although it is preferable to use the path running along the cliff: the panorama is simply fantastic, since the coast is very indented at the point.
