In the Lowlands, you must visit Loch Lomond, the largest in Scotland. Surrounded by hills and forests, it has inspired various poets. You can go for excursions on board a large boat or a rowing boat from Balloch. The Lowlands are also rich in castles. The Stirling Castle dominates the town from a small hill. The frescoes in the Royal Chapel are remarkable. Yet Culzean Castle is the most impressive site. On top of cliffs on the west coast of the loch, it has sumptuous interiors of a neo-classical inspiration. A large park surrounds the castle, which offers great views over the coast and the surrounding countryside.
