In brief

The currency in England is the pound Sterling. Credit cards (Visa, MasterCard and American Express) are largely accepted, and cash machines can be used to withdraw money. Cash and travellers cheques in pounds can easily be exchanged. Bank opening hours: from 9:30am to 4:30pm during the week.
Although the pound Sterling is accepted throughout United Kingdom, it is worth remembering that Scotland, the Channel Islands and Northern Ireland issue their own currency, equal in value to the pound Sterling. Whether it is from Scotland, Jersey, Guernsey or Northern Ireland, this currency cannot be exchanged outside the United Kingdom, so check what type of notes you still have before leaving the country.

Arriving London by train
Since 14 November 2007, the Eurostar
terminal in London is no longer Waterloo (south bank) but Saint Pancras (north
bank). Linked by 6 subway lines, this allows you to access easily
all of the neighbourhoods in London. Additionally, thanks to the change in station, the journey time from Paris to London
is brought down to 2hrs 15mins.
Congestion Charge
It is not advisable to travel around the centre
of London by car due to the congestion charge that is applied
(at least 8 GBP per vehicle and per day).
Prices for the Underground
If you spend more time in the
centre, go for the Visitor Card (3 days) or the Oyster Card (7 days), because
the price of just one subway ticket is prohibitive(4 £). Comparatively, a
bus ticket per unit costs 2 £ .
The main towns are served
by air from London. The railway network is vast and several
bus companies cover the whole area. The bus fare is,
on average, twice as cheap than the train. To rent a car, a national driver's
licence is enough. Driving is on the left and speed restrictions
are in miles, with a maximum speed of 30 mph (that is 48 km/hour)
in towns, 60 mph (that is 97 km/h) on the highways and 70 mph (that is 113 km/h) on
motorways.
