The famous London square had occupied the the place that formerly served as royal stables since the middle of the XIXth century . It is decorated with a column which commemorates the victory of Trafalgar won by the English over the French in 1805. One side of the square is skirted by the National Gallery, the painting museum that must be visited both for its permanent collections and for its temporary exhibitions.
