The difference in climate between the north and the south, this is between the coastline and inlands, is very distinct. In the South, the best time of the year to enjoy pleasant temperatures is from October to May (never falling below 15 °C, and usually much higher), the heat in the summer being sometimes overwhelming. In the northern part, winters are usually chilly and the temperatures in summer never surpass 20 °C (San Francisco Bay is cooled down by the Humbolt current). Furthermore, the Sierra Nevada mountainous areas and the northern part of the State can be covered in snow in winter, and it is not rare for some roads to be blocked by snow.
