For Americans, breakfast remains an important moment of the day. On the menu is a hearty meal: orange juice, pancakes (sprinkled with maple syrup), eggs, scrambled or fried, along with bacon and hash browns, fresh fruits, cereals and milk. ?American' coffee, often refilled as much as you like, is not worth trying.
For the other meals, take advantage of the seafood while in Florida, like crayfish, lobsters, fresh and delicious crabs, all at reasonable prices. Without forgetting the herd of fish like the mullet, served smoked or grilled with a dash of lemon. Less common, try alligator meat, close in taste to chicken
Order grilled meat, like the traditional T-Bone steak that comes with a multitude of sauces. For those who want to eat light, many restaurant offer a salad buffet, also served with different types of dressings. Try the Caesar dressing (garlic and parmesan) or the Blue cheese dressing, or the more exotic ?1000 Island' dressing.
For quick meals, hamburgers or cold sandwiches are usually a good option. As for cheese, expect to find only hard cheeses, Emmenthal and Gouda substitutes. For dessert, try the Key Lime Pie, a lemon and meringue tart, which is a Florida speciality. Enjoy the taste of cheese cakes and ice creams with unusual flavours.
Enjoy all of the fruits grown under a perfect sun, either by eating it as it is or drinking it in freshly squeezed juices. Florida is a large producer of grapefruit and oranges. Besides the standard American restaurants, enjoy Cuban cuisine with pork or chicken grills, served with black beans or cassava root. Be tempted by the aroma of a Cuban espresso. As well as this, discover flavours from Haitian cuisine or Latin American cuisine in general. Venture into French, Italian, Mexican, Vietnamese, and Jewish restaurants. Know that in the United States, it is normal to take home food that you had ordered and have not been able to finish. It's what Americans call the ?doggy bag'.
