Overview

United States, Las Vegas and National Parks

Capital of the outrageous, gambling and kitsch, Las Vegas is the world famous epicentre of excess. Under the characteristic neon lights, the eyes of visitors are wide-open. The city, transformed in a gigantic amusement park, Las Vegas displays its reproductions of emblematic monuments, fountains and garish colours. This frenzy contrasts strongly with the omnipresence of the surrounding rock and the desert. Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Mesa Verde, Bryce Canyon and Yellowstone, all near Las Vegas, are ranked among the most beautiful landscapes on Earth.

pros

  •  Possible to immerse yourself in the beautiful wildlife or have very urban stay in Las Vegas.
  •  Who knows, perhaps you will even land jackpot on a one-armed bandit.

cons

  •  A trip to the 'West Coast' will be relatively expensive, due to the great distance and living costs, relatively high in the United States.
  •  If you hate corny, tacky things, the atmosphere in Las Vegas might become quite oppressive to you.

Our Editorial team's advice

In Las Vegas, enjoy the gigantic all-you-can-eat buffet offered for a few dollars only by casino-hotels using this formula as a promotional tool to attract customers.
To benefit from a breathtaking view of the city (especially at night), go up Stratophere Hotel's tower, on the strip.
In Arizona, avoid Phoenix, the state capital, if you can because it lacks interest.
Balloon pilots, go to Albuquerque (New Mexico), as every October the Balloon Fiesta takes place, one of the world's biggest annual balloon mass gathering.
Passionate about Indian culture? Here are a few key places that you shouldn't miss: Chelly canyon in Arizona, the Indian Hopis reservation, enclosed in the Navajo territory (in Arizona also), Taos Pueblo and Acomas Pueblo, in New Mexico.
