Overview

United States, New York

The Big Apple is a mecca for people of so many different walks of life that we can't even list them here. Which city, more than New York, has the power to create dreams, passions, legends, and then fulfil them so stunningly? The city that never sleeps will suit people in suits or casual clothes; it is a symbol of the modern age, with the Statue of Liberty as its standard bearer. A heterogeneous and cosmopolitan population gathers in this nerve centre of the United States, and frantic activity can be found 24/7 in the forest of skyscrapers. When there is so much to say, where do we start? You truly have to experience it for yourself. Each different area is a world of its own, and wherever you wander, you'll find plenty of museums, shows day and night, and shopping of all kinds. The city's steady pulse is a heartbeat that can be felt the world over.

pros

  •  The extraordinary energy of this huge cosmopolitan city.
  •  The diversity of New York and its surroundings: the city, but also the beaches and the beautiful nature of Hudson Valley.

cons

  •  The cost of living is relatively high, especially when the dollar exchange rate is not favourable.
  •  Security is still uncertain in certain areas (Bronx, Harlem).

Our Editorial team's advice

Do not only focus on Manhattan; the other four boroughs of New York City have their own style and are also of great interest. Brooklyn, in particular, is a neighbourhood that is in rapid development.
The large museums in New York City are worth visiting: check out the MoMa (Museum of Modern Art), Guggenheim Museum and Whitney Museum.
Do not try to go to the top of the Statue of Liberty; there is only one queue and the wait can be up to several hours. Moreover, from the bottom of the Statue of Liberty, the view is as clear as at the top.
A visit to Ellis Island, close to the Statue of Liberty, and the former entry point for immigrants, is just as exciting, and you'll even learn a thing or two!
Our favourite neighbourhoods were East Village, Chelsea, Lower Midtown, Brooklyn Heights and Flushing, in Queens.
