As in Argentina, rural folk is made up of melodies from a solo guitar. The Estilo, Milonga or Vidalita are danced in couples. The tango has also had an important influence on Uruguay. The Cumparsita, a famous Uruguayan piece of music, was written by Gerado Matods Rodriguez in 1917. To the north of the country, on the border with Brazil, the black slave heritage can be felt during the Morenado Carnival when percussion can be heard, particularly the famous tamboril.
