There are still some jaguars and pumas, but mostly in the remote areas. Nevertheless, foxes, stags, wild cats, rodents, reptiles, serpents and other wild animals can be seen. The waters of the Uruguay River are home to small alligators and caimans. South America's largest bird is also found in Uruguay - the rhea, which can live for up to 40 years. A very common fish, the croaker, is often fished; it is found in the Rocha Lagune, a National Park, where it is protected. Even bigger is the Southern Right Whale, which is a vulnerable and protected species. In Uruguay, it is found in the Maldonado and Rocha areas, and sometimes towards Montevideo and Canelones.
