With 36,000 inhabitants, Port-Vila is by far the largest town in the archipelago. Located on the edge of Vila bay, to the south-west of Efate, it spreads between hills that offer spectacular views over the neighbouring islands of Iririki and Ifira. To get there easily, travel along Kumul Road, which runs parallel to the seafront. Go to the market which sells fish, tropical fruit and local crafts. From the market, head towards Independence Park, which runs the length of Winston Churchill Avenue. Next, visit the Mele-Maat cascades, which are found at the foot of Klem Hill. The road that climbs the cascades is impressive. After going for 7 miles down this road you will see the 65 ft waterfalls, in the heart of the tropical forest. It is safe to swim in the pools at the foot of the waterfalls as well as to explore the area on foot.
