Mount Yasur on Tanna is 1,184 ft high and is easily accessible. The road that goes from Lenakel airport climbs to the crater, passing next to the Cinder plain. Below, you can see Lake Isiwi and Mount Yasur, which dominates the plain with its large cone, topped with a thick cloud of smoke. This excursion is best attempted in late afternoon when the contrast between the colours is sharpest and most impressive.
