From Nha Trang to Phan Thiet, the coast is absolutely superb, made up of beaches and creeks, with crystal-clear water and numerous little islands just opposite. It is an ideal location, on the one hand, for Saigon's inhabitants, who come to relax here on the weekend and, on the other hand, for tourists, who end their holiday here with a few days by the seaside. Swimming, water sports, diving and sunbathing are the main activities here, but if you prefer authenticity, cultural visits and tours of awe-inspiring landscapes, they are also available.
Nha Trang is a city of over 300,000 inhabitants reputed for its bay, one of the world's most beautiful, which is surrounded with scattered islands, themselves reputed for their glorious seabed and cultural attractions.
Plan Thiet, which is an old harbour of the kingdom of Champa, has retained its strong tradition in trade. While the comings and goings of the fishermen out at sea punctuate the lives of some of the population, tourists lounge on the white sand beach or climb to the top of the dunes which seem to have sprouted out of nowhere.

  Nha Trang's 'can bat dan' houses, with 36 columns.
  Song Thuy's fishing shipyard cooperative.
  Vinh Thanh's houses and, 2 and a half mi away, Thap Ba's hot springs.
  The panorama from the headland of Hon Chong, which is very very busy with tourists and you have to pay, but it is worth it as the view is splendid!
  The sand dunes which run down into the sea and form the peninsula and Mui Ne beach.
  Duc Thanh school, now a museum, where Ho Chi Minh studied from 1910 to 1911.
  Hon Mun sea reserve.
  The boats returning from a day's fishing, loaded with fish.
  The Nuoc Man factory, unless you are squeamish...
  The colourful fishing boats on the Cai River which flows across Phan Thiet. The fishermen go out fishing at night-time with lamps aboard their boats to attract squids and cuttlefish.

  Take part in the lively night-time parties organised on the beach of Nha Trang.
  Go on a boat ride along the Cai River and to Hai Dao island.
  Swim at Tran Phu beach.
  Hire a bike and cycle along the coast.
  Go on the world's longest sea cable car to get to Hon Tre island.
  Walk around the remains of the kingdom of Champa, such as the site of My Son.
  Visit South-East Asia's tallest and oldest lighthouse, located on a desert island, 600 ft away from the coast (approximately 15 mi from Phan Thiet).
  Visit Nha Trang's Oceanography Museum.
  Take a Vietnamese cooking lesson at Bien Dua Resort, a small hotel by the beach and learn how to make spring rolls, Canton fried rice and banana fritters and then eat them (?5).

  Wrap nuoc man sauce very well if you take some home with you because the smell of fish may never leave your clothes if there is a leak; also do not visit the nuoc man factory if you are squeamish.
