Weather Forecast in Papua New Guinea

The climate varies considerably, depending on the altitude: it is hot (an average 28 C) and humid all year long on the lowlands, the Bismarck archipelago, and the Salomon islands, whereas the temperature gets significantly cooler in the mountains, where it is actually cool or even cold at night time. Above 2,000 m, there is sometimes snow or frost. Some of the Owen Stanley mountains even have everlasting snow.
In order to avoid the rain season, the best time to travel to Papua New Guinea runs from June to September: the weather is dry and sunny along the shore of the Coral sea, the temperature of which remains delightful at all times, an average of 26 to 29 C. In the rest of the country, especially in the mountains, the rain which is very abundant all year long, goes through a relatively quieter period. The Highlands, which are very rainy, are covered in a thick, permanent and stagnant mist. New Britain even experiences diluvian rain. Take some light clothes for the coast, other warmer ones for the mountains and something to protect yourself from the rain.
