Thanks to its cultural diversity, craft is very varied in this region. Nevertheless, the basket making deserves a special mention as it is recognised as one of the best in Africa! Originally, craftsmen were forced to base their trade around fishing and agriculture. Today, traditional baskets and pots have sadly lost their appeal due to more modern iron or plastic objects. In addition to this, ancestral know-how is disappearing little by little as it is no longer naturally passed down from generation to generation.
