At each wedding, the parents of the future spouse pay their respect to the parents of the fiancé through an intermediary, known as "lobola". The young girl is then taken early to the village of her future husband, where her new family waits. It is a large occasion which involves all the villagers. Beer is brewed and singing and dancing accompany the meal. Once the marriage is pronounced, the young couple listens to the advice of their elders who guide them towards a good marriage. The wife cannot cook for her husband until his family has shown her around the kitchen.
