Music and dance are very well rooted within Zambian traditional culture and are difficult to separate from each other. Rhythms are varied and the body follows the smallest noise, an impressive and entertaining sight. Different traditional instruments are used, the piano for example, the Silimba (a type of xylophone) and of course the drum plays a fundamental role in ceremonies and community communication. According to Zambians, dance translates feelings and ideas through the medium of the body. Colonisation brought with it its own musical culture and the younger generations are very involved with it.
