Constantine, eastward, perched at the foot of the giddy gorges of Rummel, could have been an eagle's amazing nest. It owes its name to the Roman Emperor Constantine who ordered the construction of several buildings. Traditional, austere, it is the bastion of Arabic and Muslim culture. Its Mosque, Abd El-Kader, lodging the University of Islamic Sciences, is one of the biggest in Africa.
