Discover Galtür Austria

Nestling at an altitude of 5,249 ft in Paznaun valley in the Tyrol's Silvretta mountain range, Galtür is the valley's family ski resort, with the Silvapark's 25 mi skiable area at Wirl full of fun activities that make it perfectly suited to younger skiers. For example, skiers look downwards to find themselves in a house haunted by the screams of a witch, or weave amongst the pines along the adventure piste in the enchanted forest, passing Smurfs, goblins and Obelix along the route. There are even golden eagles, ibex, chamois and marmots, which may be stuffed but are almost as lifelike as the real thing! Children will just love it (and the chances are, adults will too!). The area also offers special pistes for schuss, mogul and ski jumping, off-piste free riding and even night pistes that are lit up from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm! Basically, you are not likely to get bored at the Silvapark at Wirl in Galtür! In between descents, you can enjoy cinnamon mulled wine or a shot of schnapps at the Addis Abebar, a trendy bar with designer architecture right next to the slopes. Close by is the symbol of the resort, a giant ice and snow sculpture of a kind of goblin, which melts away in the spring and is reborn when the first snow falls in the autumn. When it comes to the 'after-skiing' activities, Galtür offers a decidedly more cultural set of activities than the trendy bars of Ischgl. So why not leave the bars behind and come and enjoy a cultural visit to the Alpinarium, an amazing multimedia museum dedicated to the alpine region, founded following the fatal avalanche of 23rd February 1999 which claimed the lives of 31 people. The museum is built into an avalanche barrier 1,132 ft long and 62 ft high.
