Discover Ischgl Austria

Nestling at an altitude of 4,593 ft in Paznaun valley in the Tyrol's Silvretta mountain range, Ischgl is the most trendy ski resort in the area, attracting the young and sporty in their droves. Silvretta Arena boasts a huge skiable area (146 mi of pistes), rises to altitudes of 9,843 ft and stretches as far as the duty-free zone of Samnaun in Switzerland, where many skiers go to stock up on cheap duty-free purchases and have a quick schnapps or cinnamon mulled wine to warm up! You don't even need to show your passport! When you climb aboard the cable cars that lift you up to the top of the pistes, you find yourself sitting on heated seats! When it comes to lunch, the Pardorama restaurant offers a designer setting and cosy fireplace at an altitude of 8,694 ft. Its VIP space welcomes you in, and even slippers are provided, the height of luxury when your feet have been stuck in ski shoes all morning! However, what really sets Ischgl apart from the other resorts are the 'after-ski' activities. This is not a reference to the moonboots you wear to walk through the snow at the end of a day on the slopes, but the cool entertainment in the trendy bars and nightclubs once you have left your skis in your hotel! Indeed, Ischgl is often considered to be Tyrol's equivalent to Ibiza, with its trendy bars and restaurants, including the famous nightclub Pacha which is housed beneath the Madlein hotel. This is a true label of quality, and would not be out of place in Ibiza or Marrakech. The lap dancers make sure the atmosphere stays at full intensity until late at night! Nevertheless, when the pistes open again at 9:00 am, there are already people queuing by the lifts, and you may well see the same faces that were out partying with you just a few hours earlier! The smart village is home to luxury hotels with spas and designer architecture, but it also retains its beautiful Baroque church and charming little cemetery. Ischgl is also famous for its 'Top of the Mountain' end-of-season concert, which is held on the pistes during the first week of May every year. Kylie Minogue performed in 2009, and Elton John in 2008, with Lionel Richie, Peter Gabriel and Tina Turner providing the music in previous years. A jet-set crowd is guaranteed!
