2003: Ilham Aliyev is elected President, with Artur Rasizade as Prime Minister.
27 July 2005: A private airline takes a commercial non-Turkish flight towards the north of Cyprus for the first time in 30 years. Until now, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has only been connected abroad via Turkey, which is the only country that recognised it.
