Discover The Rinpung Dzong Bhutan

The fortress temple of Paro, the Rinpung Dzong (17th century) today houses a community of 200 monks as well as the administrative government of the district. The ?fortress of the heap of jewels? is known for the quality of the woodwork on its central tower as well as its ?Cosmic Mandalas', representations of the universe inspired by texts from the 5th and 10th centuries. Beneath the fortress temple of Paro, the Dungtse Lhakhang (15th century) is one of the two Bhutanese temples constructed in the shape of a chorten (a Lamaist shrine or monument), or as a cylindrical structure on various levels. Its walls are covered with priceless paintings that were restored in the middle of the 19th century.
