Discover Thimpu Dzong Bhutan

Built in 1641, Thimpu Dzong (Tashichho Dzong) was converted in the 1960's to become the government headquarters. The whole property is richly decorated, particularly the temple in the courtyard of the State clergy, which includes paintings of Cosmic Mandalas. The Memorial Chorten, built in 1974, in honour of the 3rd king of Bhutan, who died the year before, is also impressive. People gather around to keep the enormous prayer wheels constantly moving.
