A paradise for kitesurfing, Cumbuco is located just 30 minutes northwest of Fortaleza. This fishing village with a slightly hippy atmosphere attracts sports lovers from around the world.

Cumbuco: what to do?

Just 30 minutes from Fortaleza, Cumbuco is a world-renowned spot for kitesurfing. That's not all. In this small village, you can book a paseo (ride) in a boogie, a kind of small Jeep suitable for driving on the sand. Accompanied by a professional guide, you will set off on an unforgettable trip lasting from a few hours to a few days, or perhaps even all the way to Jericocoara (3 days).

Sloping towards the sea and lapped by the waves, the beach of Cumbuco is magnificent and immaculate. The wind blows constantly throughout the year, especially from July to December, meaning Cucumbo has become a global meeting point for kitesurfers. Before this relatively new sport was invented, the area was used for windsurfing, a sport that requires the same weather conditions.

Reminders

The state of Ceará has chosen not to adopt daylight saving time, meaning the sun sets very early in summer and it starts to get dark around 5:00pm. Consequently, if you plan on spending your days sunbathing, we advise you to get up very early in the morning in order to make the most of the beach for as long as possible.

To avoid

The sun is very strong whatever the season. Make sure to use a sun cream with a high protection factor! If you're not into kitesurfing, you may be bored in Cumbuco. 90% of tourists visit the area for the sport: they are not interested in partying and just want to find the wind. If you are visiting Cumbuco to relax on the beach, you have chosen the wrong destination. The wind is very strong for most of the year, which is not ideal if you are planning to spend time on the beach and swimming in the sea. Likewise, if you are looking to sunbathe in peace, you have got the wrong place. The beach is overrun by kiteboards with their colourful sails. A truly spectacular sight.
