Peter Island, south of Tortola Island, is the most famous starting point in the Caribbean for deep-sea diving where the 'Rhone' boat wreckage, a ship of about 328 ft long that sunk during a hurricane in 1867 can be seen at a depth of about 65 ft. It is said that nearby, on Dead Chest Island, Blackbeard abandoned about fifteen mutineers with just a bottle of rum as supplies. The souvenirs or ?wreckages' of pirates and travels from a past century are just a few feet from the bottom of the ocean. There are hundreds of them and they are all scattered around the archipelago and the island of Anegada in particular.
