A mixture of Portuguese and African influences and Brazilian rhythms, Cape Verdean music floats over all the islands. The violin, guitar, saxophone and percussion are the main instruments accompanying the poetic texts of popular songs. The morna, which Cesaria Evora has become known by, is a lament evoking the nostalgia of enforced exile and at the same time as the isolation of the people staying on the archipelago. The coladeira is differentiated by more Brazilian and African rhythms. The funana and the mazurka are other types of very lively Cape Verdean music which will have you up and dancing in no time!
