Bangui

  • Bangui is home to many historic ruins, a large percentage, though not all of which are well-preserved. The capital is also the country's most modern city.

Bangui is the only town with important historical monuments. Go to Republic Square, which has a luminous fountain in the middle of it, and a large market nearby. You have to go there in the morning to get the best impression. From there, go to the cathedral, in rue des Missions. This red brick building has a very beautiful portal in carved wood. The interior, decorated with large picture windows and stained glass, is particularly dazzling. Then go and see the Renaissance palace that holds the government, and go up the route des collines that is just behind, in a car. This way you will see a panorama of the capital and the Oubangui River that runs alongside it.
