Discover Tibesti cave paintings Chad

The Chadian cultural wealth is found in its numerous naturally-preserved archeological sites found in Tibesti. Cave paintings and prehistoric engravings are amongst the oldest in Africa (stretching back to 2 000 or even 5 000 years before our time). They are very visible, notably in the far north-western part of the country, close to Zuar and Bandaļ. The painted hunting scenes are evidence of the once troipcal nature of the region's climate and abundance of water and wildlife, at a time when Tibesti was Lake Chad's Northern border. Unfortunately, today these marvels are only enjoyed by nomads, rebels and few adventurers venturing in this fabulous, but highly risky region.
