This semi-precious blue stone can only be found in the region of Barahona in the south-west of the Dominican Republic. The first deposits were discovered in 1974. The name comes from the contraction of 'Lari', the name of the daughter of the discoverer, and 'mar', because this stone's blue colour is reminiscent of the sea.
