Soma Bay is not a town. It is strip of desert. A strip of desert along one of the most beautiful natural bays on the Egyptian Red Sea, an exceptional site for all types of diving, kitesurfing, windsurfing, sailing and swimming. The ever-present sea, the mountains and the nearby town of Safaga form the Soma horizon. Full of hotels and tourists, Soma Bay is centred around the Soma Bay Resort, a 5 mile squared complex built on the northern peninsula of the bay. However, currently only 1 square mile of the complex has been developed. Despite the surrounding hotels, Soma Bay remains a very open destination, where there is a endless impression of space.
The 18-hole golf course designed by Gary Player, the thalassotherapy centre at the Résidence des Cascades, the internationally renowned 7BFT kitesurfing centre (which stands for seven beauforts, a very common wind speed in Soma), the water sports base, the marina and the beautiful PADI diving centre are all part of the facilities shared by the hotels in the resort. A destination designed for well-being and sporty holidays, with very very good facilities.
Located 31 miles from Hurghada, Soma Bay is a good half hour's transfer from the airport. The port town of Safaga, 6 miles as the crow flies from the Soma Bay Resort, does not hold any tourist attraction.
