Discover The Dahlak Archipelago Eritrea

From Massawa, it is possible to hire a boat to travel around or visit the Dahlak Archipelago (for example on a sambuchi, the traditional fishing boat). Only 10 of the 209 islands are inhabited. The absence of tourist infrastructures means you have to contact the Eritrean Tour Service agency, in Massawa, if you wish to stay there. Apart from the Semite ruins, the unique culture of the inhabitants and the beautiful immaculate beaches, the islands are a wonderful place for underwater diving, notably on Shumma, Nora and Isratu for bottle divers and Madote and Dissei for the others. To the South, the modern city of Assab has plenty of beaches where you can swim.

The Dahlak archipelago is a group of more than 200 islands but only 10 are inhabited, due to their arid climate; however, they are a paradise for excursions and scuba diving.
