Air Europa was founded in 1986, and operated its first commercial flights the same year. A Spanish company, it was soon bought by Globalia in 1991, a group leader in the Spanish travel sector, which owns several other companies and travel agencies including Halcon Viajes and Viajes Ecuador. The Air Europa baggage allowance permits all its passengers to bring an item of hand baggage into the cabin provided it does not surpass 55x35x25 cm in size, or 10kg in weight for Economy Class, and 14kg in Business Class for short-haul flights or up to 18kg for intercontinental flights. In addition, passengers can bring a second backpack or handbag, portable computer or brief case. There is no extra charge for Air Europa hold luggage and weight restrictions vary depending on the destination and ticket class (Economy Class passengers are permitted one hold bag weighing no more than 23kg, and Air Europa Business Class passengers are permitted up to three bags each weighing less than 23kg). Bags weighing more than 23kg will require an additional fee of up to 60 euros, and bags must not weigh more than 32kg. Excess baggage must be announced during the ticket sale.Passengers not wishing to use the check-in luggage service can make use of the Air Europa online check in service.
