Flights to Berlin: to see Checkpoint Charlie from £48

The capital city of Germany, Berlin has a colourful history which has left an indelible mark on the city. Famous landmarks such as the Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie and what remains of the Berlin Wall, give you a glimpse into the fascinating history of this vibrant city. There are two airports in the city; Tegel which deals with the slight majority of international flights, and Schoenefeld that is utilised by low-cost carriers. All the major carriers offer routes to the city, and this fierce competition can lead to many possibilities for getting a cheap flight. Ryanair and easyJet serve Schoenefeld, offering flights from European capitals and more obscure locations; compare flights from Edinburgh and other airports around the UK to increase your chances of getting a cheap flight to the city. Almost 70% of the city's buildings were destroyed during World War II, however today Berlin is one of the most culturally progressive cities in Europe. Located at the eastern end of the city's most famous boulevard Unter den Linden, Museum Island plays host to five of the city's most celebrated Museums. The area is a perennial favourite of visitors, who flock to see the bust of Nefertiti at the Neues Museum. One of the German capital's most striking sights is the new Reichstag building, which was reopened in 1999, following the addition of a glass dome designed by Sir Norman Foster. The dome is also open to the public and offers incredible panoramic views of the city. The Fernsehturm (or television tower) is one of the city's most iconic landmarks. The tower stands in the city's historic Alexanderplatz, and special elevators bring curious tourists up to the revolving restaurant and a public viewing gallery.
