Sightseeing Kobe 1 Mt. Maya

Famed for its mountains and volcanoes, Japan has a stunning landscape, with Mt. Maya being no exception. Getting to the summit will require a hike, however there are man made stairs hewed into the rock, and the journey to the top will take you past some natural reservoirs and waterfalls.

2 Ikuta Shrine

The thought of Japan conjures images of medieval Castles and Temples, as is the case with the picturesque Ikuta Shrine. Situated in the Sannomiya public park, the shrine is easy to find and offers my photo opportunities, with its colourful gardens and zen meditation areas.

3 City Museum

The museum is located on the banks of the Chuo Ward, and houses a collection of many local artefacts such as Samurai and Ashigaru weapons and armour. The museum has a minimal entry fee, however there are often special exhibitions on display, such as sarcophagi and rare artworks.

4 Kawasaki World

A few minutes travel upriver from the Harbour, Kawasaki World is part of the larger Maritime Museum, the facility has many displays and historical artefacts surrounding the Kawasaki company. There are many children's activities available, as well as a full scale flight simulator in both English and Japanese.

5 Oji Zoo

No trip to a foreign place is quite complete without visiting the local zoo. The zoo is home to a wide variety of exotic animals, including pandas, flamingos, elephants, tigers, and more. The ideal time to visit is during spring, when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom.

Required travel documents for Japan

The time difference between London and Kobe is 8 hours. You will need your passport, preferably with a biometric chip to ensure you get through customs with minimal fuss. It would be a good idea to avoid travel between July and September, as it is the height of Typhoon season, and storms can become quite intense. There is also a risk of earthquakes, however severe quakes are a rarity, but its never a bad idea to take out a travel insurance policy just in case.
Japan is a culturally and historically rich and diverse nation, with many modern attractions including sprawling shopping networks and high-tech city centres.
