Icelandair : History

Icelandair is Iceland's national airline company. It was created in 1937 and is based at Keflavik International Airport in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. The airline is ideally located in between two continents and is favoured for its cheap flights between Europe and the Americas. An Icelandair stopover can last up to seven days. The Icelandair fleet is made up of 21 aircrafts and Icelandair flights transport passengers to 35 destinations across Western Europe (Paris, Manchester, Amsterdam etc.) and the main cities in the USA (New York, Seattle, Orlando etc.)

Icelandair : Information about the airline

Check-in

The Icelandair baggage limit permits all passengers to carry one or two items of hand luggage on board with them (one for Icelandair Economy and two for Economy Comfort and Saga). These bags should be no larger than 55x40x20cm and cannot weigh over 10kg each. There is no extra charge for hold luggage but different weight and size restrictions apply depending on the flight destination and ticket class. The weight allowance generally fluctuates between 23kg for one bag or and two bags weighing 32kg each. On an Icelandair flight overweight baggage will incur extra costs and should be registered when buying your flight ticket. The price for extra weight varies between 38 euros and 44 euros for domestic flights and 93 euros to 114 euros for international flights.

Passengers who are travelling without hold luggage can make use of the Icelandair online check in service which is open 36 hours before your flight is due to depart (or 24 hours before flights to the USA) and closes 90 minutes before take-off. In addition, some airports have automatic ticket dispensers which Icelandair customers can use to speed up the check in process.
