Quantas is the biggest Australian airline company, it is one of the most important in the world as well as being one of the oldest (founded in 1920). The company is based at Sydney-Kingsford Smith and Melbourne-Tullamarine airports. Quantas 143 aeroplanes fly all over the world: to Africa (Johannesburg, Casablanca ), to Europe (London, Paris ), to the United States (Los Angeles, New York ), to South America (Santiago), to Asia (Shanghai, Hong Kong ), to the Middle East (Dubai), and of course to Oceania (all of the Australian and New Zealand airports). It is part of the One World alliance which is made up of 15 members. Quantas is considered one of the worlds safest airline companies: the last fatal accident was in 1951.
Quantas allows its passengers to bring hand luggage on board with them. For domestic flights, two bags each weighing a maximum of 7kgs are allowed for everyone. For international flights, travellers can bring two hand luggage bags of 7kgs (for Business class) or one 7kg item (for Economy class). For everyone, another small personal item such as a handbag or a laptop bag is allowed. Passengers must be aware that the sum of the dimensions of any piece of hand luggage must not exceed 115cm. The company includes hold luggage in its ticket prices, but the allowed weight of the baggage varies according to class and the route: from one item of a maximum of 23kgs to four items of 32kgs. Any excess luggage, costs 30$ per item for domestic flights and between 70$ and 280$ for 5 additional kilos on international flights.
It is necessary to check-in at the airport. However, passengers must be aware that the recommended arrival time at the airport before the flight changes depending on the class and the departure airport. Information regarding this is available on the dedicated check-in page: http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/airlines/check-in-times/global/au.
During the flight
Starting from Quantas cheapest priced tickets, numerous entertainment services are provided for passengers on long-haul flights: including individual screens with music, series and recent films to choose from and, of course, meals served at the appropriate hours. Members of Business class have priority access throughout their journey (check-in, boarding) and extra comfort on board: fully reclining chairs, a big screen and a number of other services (snacks and gourmet food?).
After the flight
The airline offers a Frequent Flyer loyalty programme: for each flight or any purchase with Quantas partners, the members accumulate Frequent Flyer points. These points can then be exchanged for rewards or bonuses such as upgrades and free flights.
