SAS Scandinavian Airlines : History

SAS, Scandinavian Airlines System, is a Scandinavian airline company and the founding member of the Star Alliance group. SAS airlines is now the number one airline in Scandinavia and Finland. The main headquarters for this airline are based at the Arlanda airport in Stockholm and the Kastrup airport in Copenhagen.
The first SAS flights took off in 1946 between Scandinavia and New York. The company then expanded its network to other continents. Nowadays, SAS has three branches: Braathens and Wideroe in Norway and Blue1 in Finland. SAS operates almost 800 flights each day and the SAS route map encompasses 120 destinations across Scandinavia, Europe, the USA and Asia. It is the first European airline company to reach an annual average of 28 million passengers.
In August 2014 the SAS fleet counted 134 aircrafts, consisting mainly of Boeing, Airbus and Bombaer.

The SAS baggage allowance restricting the number of bags permitted and the weight of these bags varies depending on the booking ticket class and flight destination. Scandinavian Airlines Economy Class passengers can bring one item of hold luggage weighing no more than 23kg, while in Economy Extra and Business Class two bags following the same weight restrictions are allowed. SAS hand luggage must be no larger than 55x40x23cm and the maximum weight is 8kg in Economy Class. Again two bags following the same restrictions are permitted in SAS Business Class and Economy Extra.
There is an SAS online check in service available which passengers are encouraged to use to avoid long queues at the airport. It is available 22 hours before the flight departure and closes one hour before the plane is due to take off. SAS check in can also be completed at the airport desk or using the self-service check in kiosks. The SAS check in time ranges from between 30 to 60 minutes before take-off.
