Discover Castle of Nymphenburg Germany

Birth place of Louis II (cousin to Empress Elisabeth of Austria), this Baroque and rococo style castle built at the time when the area outside of the city of Munich (today close to the city) was the summer residence of the kings of Bavaria. The interior decoration (purple dyes, gilded paintings and at the entrance, carpets depicting mythological scenes, etc), Ludwig II's "Gallery of Beauty" with its portraits of women of the Versailles court, the cabinet of chinoiseries, and the immense park with its small pavilions make this castle one of the city's main attractions. On the rear of the building, the "French-style" gardens with a canal at their centre were redesigned in an 'English' style and lined with wood on their surroundings that have been kept the same ever since. There is a small emblematic, rococo-styled hunting ground with an architectural style typical of Bavaria. The stables now host a museum of horse-drawn coaches that mainly belonged to Louis II.
