According to the legend, Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of beauty, was born on the island of Cyprus. This is why it is sometimes named "the island of love". A holiday in Cyprus is a mix of relaxation and a trip back in time. The country has rich history. Inhabited since the beginnings of antiquity, it became a stronghold of Greek culture, a bastion of the Knights Hospitallers in the middle ages, it came under Ottoman and British rule before becoming independent in 1960. Cypriot landscapes are varied, the centre of the island has mountains with hiking routes among the pines, as for the coast, one can lounge around on the beaches of sand or pebbles. The urban charm of the cities reflects all past influences, Orthodox monasteries themselves are worth an entire visit. However, keep in mind, during a visit to Cyprus, the island is divided between the Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish side in the North. The buffer zone between the two States is a place to avoid. Despite this partition, the Cypriots are very friendly, always ready to offer you a glass of ouzo or introduce you to the rich gastronomy of the island.
