Hotel Treasure Cay Beach Resort Hotel 3 star
P.O. Box AB-22183 Abaco, Bahamas
Amy Adejokun Section editor

If you're into game fishing, or simply into boating, the Treasure Cay Beach is the place for you. However, if you're not, you should give this hotel a miss. It offers a decent level of comfort but the facilities are rather nondescript. The buildings that house the apartments are all the same, the only difference being their names and the different pastel colours on their walls. In fact, the Treasure Cay Beach Resort looks more like a residential complex than a hotel.

    Location 3.0 /10

The Treasure Cay Beach Resort stands on one of the islands that make up the Abacos archipelago. Marsh Harbour, the capital, is some 36 mi away. There are two airports on the island and the closest one is a short drive away. The flight to Nassau will take you half an hour.

    Accommodation 7.20 /10

Spread throughout one-floor buildings, the 94 rooms are rather like well-equipped apartments with a kitchen, a bar area, a lounge and a bathroom that occupy the ground floor and the first floor. However, you should know that the gas hobs here seem to have come out of another era... The reasonably-sized terrace is a place where you can enjoy the sunshine, but you'll have to put up with the proximity of your neighbours. The bed is on the first floor and is surrounded by rather charmless decoration. The television is mounted on the wall and is much too small to be that high up. As for the bathroom , it is tiny and raises the following question: is it possible to find an anti-limestone product in the Bahamas? Not in Treasure Cay Beach Resort in any case... You should therefore not be astonished if there is no pressure in your shower head as it is more than likely clogged with lime deposits. As for amenities, all rooms have air-conditioning, a telephone, a hair-dryer, a refrigerator, an iron and an ironing board. In the bathroom, instead of hospitality products, you will find shampoo and soap dispensers.

    Overview 7.70 /10

The Treasure Cay Beach Resort opened in the early 80's, it has not been renovated since and it shows. Some parts of the hotel are in dire need of a face-lift, as is the case with most of the furniture. On entering the reception, you will discover quite a cold area despite the few decorative elements which are there to remind you that you are in the Bahamas. Given the size of the place, most guests get around by car, so be careful when going from one place to another. The hotel's swimming pool is not very big and the plastic deck chairs laid out around it are not very inviting. There are no parasols to keep you out of the sun, so you will have to make do with the trees and the shade that they provide. The hotel also has its own 18-hole golf course designed by Dick Wilson.

    Food and drink 6.70 /10

At the Treasure Cay Beach Hotel all three meals are served a la carte. Breakfast is served at the Spinnaker Restaurant, a place that includes a large indoor room and an outdoor terrace surrounded by an unattractive dark mosquito nest. The presence of flowers is a feeble attempt at brightening the place up a bit. As far as the cuisine is concerned, the dishes are international and standard. Once a week, the restaurant closes and guests go to the beach bar, the 'Coco Beach Bar', for a massive barbecue. There is a second bar, called the Tipsy, where guests can carve their name into the wooden beams. The bar offers pizza once a week.

    Beach 8.70 /10

The establishment benefits from its location on a beautiful, fine sand beach. Although it is quite far from the rooms, it is a definite must-see. The sand is like flour and the sea is crystal-clear, it is dificult to resist a quick dip. You will particularly appreciate the presence of the beach attendants who are on hand to lay out your plastic deck chair under a straw parasol. As for noise, the beach is relatively quiet, the perfect place to enjoy a nice snooze, unless you are plagued by noisy neighbours...

    To know

Although all the facilities are safe for children and the resort's apartmentss are designed to accommodate families, there is no form of entertainment put on for the kids.
