Robinson Club Agadir Hotel 4 star

Chemin De Dunes, Founty 2, P.O. Box 31312 Agadir, Morocco
Amy Adejokun Section editor

The Robinson Club hotel is certainly impressive on first sight in terms of its size and length, but once inside you feel completely at ease in the very pleasant environment of beaches, sand dunes and forests. The services are very high quality for an all-inclusive club hotel. The hotel can also boast being one of the most ecological in Morocco. Special attention is paid to the environment here, which is not an easy task for a club-hotel of this size.

    Location 6.0 /10

The Robinson Club is located at the far south of Agadir beach, after the two Sofitel hotels and the Royal Palace, a stone's throw from the Riad Villa Blanche hotel. Admittedly, it is further from the city centre (10-15 minute drive) than other hotels, but it benefits from a privileged natural environment, next to the sand dunes (the last dunes in Agadir), the forests and the beach. Far from the hustle and bustle of the seaside resort, guests at the Robinson Club can take advantage of the calm that reigns in the hotel. To get to the city centre you have to take a taxi.

    Accommodation 7.50 /10

The 302 guest rooms are divided among small one-storey buildings running perpendicular to the ocean. Some have a sea view, while others have a view of the garden or the sand dunes. The guest rooms are all decorated in the same way. Shades of orange dominate, and although the decor is sober and lacks charm, it is simple and effective. The few pictures dotted here and there are the only personal touch. The furniture is either black wood or wicker. All of the rooms have a television, a telephone, air conditioning, a free safe and a minibar. Bear in mind that there is no Wi-Fi in the guest rooms. All of the rooms have twin beds that can be joined together to make one bed, and the sofa in the lounge area can be used as an extra children's bed. The guest rooms on the ground floor have a small terrace, while those on the first floor have a balcony. Deckchairs and parasols are provided. All of the bathrooms have a lovely Italian-style shower (only the suites have a bathtub). Here as well the decor is simple, featuring shades of ochre. Note that the toilet is always in a separate room. While it's true the guest rooms won't have you falling head over heels, they are decent, clean and spacious.

    Overview 7.20 /10

The Robinson Club owns 42 acres of land, 30 of which consist of greenery, gardens and a vegetable garden. If you look closely, you can discover plants from all over the world. The park is composed of different gardens, including an Andalusian garden that makes a great spot for a drink.
It should be noted that the hotel grounds are 1 mile long, but are very well integrated into the landscape. The various small buildings run perpendicular to the beach and the sea, in a single row. The hotel is almost overwhelming on first sight, but turns out to be charming once you enter the huge complex. Gardens, greenery, a patio, a lagoon, and a magnificent view of the last dunes in Agadir and the surrounding wilderness.
This Club, which opened its door at the end of April 2008, offers numerous services and entertainment. Different activities are programmed every day for both the young and old alike. There is a baby club, a kids club, and a teens club for children ages 3 to 17. This large, bright space is equipped with plenty of toys and games that are divided between several rooms. Outdoor games are also organised so that kids can expend some energy! The mini zoo is sure to delight children with its goats, chickens, donkeys, rabbits and many other animals. For older children, a range of sporty, creative and interactive activities are organised. Tennis and swimming lessons are available, but are charged extra. It has to be said that children of all ages certainly won't have time to be bored. They also have their own swimming pool. Note that the kids club is open 24/7 during school holidays.
Adults can also find something they enjoy out of the activities on offer: aquagym, volleyball, tennis, surfing, painting workshops, football, petanque, bodyboarding and table tennis.
In the evening, shows are put on in the club theatre and the nightclub is open all night long. Naturally, the Robinson Club has a huge swimming pool with 3 levels; the perfect place to cool off.

    Food and drink 7.00 /10

For refreshments throughout your stay, there is the choice between the main and beach restaurants. The main (buffet) restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and serves both international and Moroccan cuisine. A pleasant spot, it has various little rooms including some that have a view of the sea, as well as a terrace so that you can eat out under the Agadir sunshine. All in all, the restaurant isn't very noisy since guests are spread out among the various, decently-sized rooms. The buffet is served on a patio in the centre of all the rooms. You might be interested to know that there is a dining room reserved for couples without children who would like to dine in peace; no children allowed. Not a bad idea if you want a quiet dinner. The restaurant decor is modern and pleasing, much warmer and friendlier than that in the guest rooms. The second restaurant is on the beach, with a dining room and a terrace where guests can eat. Here you can try the fish, meats, grills, pizza and pasta, all made from fresh products. Perfect for a spot of lunch in front of the ocean. Note that for a hotel club the food is very high quality and there is plenty of choice and variety.

    Spa 7.5 /10

There is a spa in a large round building for those who enjoy cocooning in an oriental ambiance. The central indoor swimming pool is heated, and affords a lovely view of the gardens. The spacious spa is equipped with a hammam, sauna, gym, massage rooms and Shiatsu treatment rooms. A garden, which could serve as a relaxation room with its deckchairs and parasols, has its own little outdoor pool. A very calm and pleasant place to unwind. Argan oil-based products are used for the massages, and Ayurvedic treatments are also proposed. The two rooms in the gym and the room for fitness classes all have a sea view. Step classes, yoga and zumba are available.

    Beach 8.00 /10

The hotel's private beach is equipped with deckchairs, parasols and sunbeds. In this calm setting, away from the commotion of Agadir and its promenade, guests can relax and soak in the unobstructed view of the ocean and the Agadir sand dunes. The seaside resort and the marina can be seen in the distance. A word of warning though, the beach can sometimes be windy and the ocean rough.

    To know

The hotel is very concerned about the environment and was ISO certified in 2012 for its eco-compatible management and for its environmental policy. The Robinson Club has its own organic vegetable garden, waste sorting and recycling system, and solar panels. Thursdays are dedicated to environmental and ecological awareness. It is one of the most ecological hotels in Morocco.
Another important thing to know is that the hotel has created its own hotel school within the complex.
The clientele is 80% German, but the hotel staff speak several languages.

One of just a select few hotels in Agadir that could justify its five stars (Moroccan stars that is), the Palais des Roses is a quality beachfront property suitable for couples, friends or families looking for a touch of luxury. Although it does not offer an animation programme, it is a full service hotel in every other sense with perhaps the biggest pull being its excellent thalassotherapy centre. It also boasts, however, beautiful public spaces and grounds, good eating options and spacious, well appointed rooms. With several unique features there are probably only a couple of better places to stay in Agadir.

The older of the two Sofitels in Agadir, the Royalbay is, together with its sister hotel, head and shoulders above all other hotels in the resort in pretty well every aspect. With the exception of the newer of the pair of French properties, the Royalbay's architecture and design is unparalleled as is the standard of the service, food and facilities. The guestrooms are spacious and extremely well appointed, the public spaces are impeccably maintained and you will not find a smarter kids club anywhere. As well as enjoying a beachfront location the hotel also boasts a quiet spot along the bay, away from the chaos of the tourist centre. The one thing we were surprised about is the lack of privacy on the terraces and balconies of the rooms, especially the most expensive.

Another of the front row hotels, the Atlas is a reasonable option for couples or groups of friends. Although the huge, impersonal lobby and main building are pretty depressing, the rooms are a little better and the public spaces are pleasant enough. While the food here is not one of the hotel's strong points, bizarrely its wellness centre is. There is minimal animation for adults during the day and a small kids club just in case there are children around. Not the most stylish or inspiring of hotels, but a good value for the location.

Along the main drag, just opposite the beach, this apart-hotel provides basic accommodation for groups of between two and five people. Not especially attractive in terms of its décor or architecture, the Golden Beach does have a decent pool area and the common areas are clean, light and adorned with greenery. Its staff, however, leaves a lot to be desired and its pizzeria serves up pretty average fare. This is one to choose if you are looking for a relatively cheap option that is situated right in the mix of things in Agadir.

Despite being one of the hotels behind the first row of complexes along the coast, the Omega does not deserve to be put in the same bracket as its neighbours. Yes, the immediate vicinity is still largely made up of building sites and vast areas of rubble and wasteland, but the hotel itself is far more pleasant than those around it and enjoys several advantages such as the superior décor, more comfortable rooms, its night club and beach shuttle. It also has some rooms equipped with a kitchenette for those wishing to stay on a self-catering basis as well as family rooms suitable too for groups of friends. If the big boys on the seafront prove a bit too expensive, the Omega could be your solution.

It is the only world class property in the resort and it beats every other hotel hands down in pretty much every way, from the design to the service and from the dining to the wellness facilities. Its beachfront location, away from the tacky tourist centre of Agadir, makes it the only place to consider for a truly relaxing luxury holiday. One could reproach the hotel for the size of its standard rooms, but they are immaculately appointed and both comfortable and functional. Also perfect are the hotel's grounds and public spaces which means that you probably will not have the remotest desire t to leave this heavenly complex. Although children are welcome at the Sofitel Agadir Thalassa Sea and Spa, the property is more suited for couples.
