Huge and very neat, the Bahia Principe Coba is the most upscale hotel of the three hotels that make up the Bahia Principe complex. Here is nothing but mastery of area development. Very airy, the various buildings stand on a huge lawn scattered with a few trees.

Location
6.5/10
On the seafront in the small seaside resort of Akumal, the Bahia Principe Coba is located 5 mi from the centre of Puerto Aventuras, 6 mi from the Tulum archaeological site, and 24 mi from Playa del Carmen. It takes between 1 hr 15 and 1hr 30 mins to get to Cancun airport, which is 60 mi away.
Accommodation
7.90/10
Built in 2005, the Coba has three different lobbies, called the 'principal', the 'premier' and the 'golden'. The latter two are for guests who have chosen to stay in one of the other rooms. They also have extra facilities. Around thirty orange buildings with two floors are sensibly distributed over the lawn of the Coba. While walking around, you will discover the 9 swimming pools one by one, including one for activities, and one for relaxation, with its lawn and palm trees in the centre. Each of them has a waterside bar. Below the theatre, the kids club is not very charming, but is impressive due to its large size. A small side room allows for naps. Outside, the children can have fun on the slides. Also: a gym, divided into two large sections, and a large spa. The Grand Bahia Principe Coba is the hotel furthest away from the beach, allowing you to benefit from the peace and quiet as much as possible.
Overview
7.70/10
The Coba has 1080 rooms (junior suites), including 6 rooms that are adapted for guests with reduced mobility. All with a balcony, the rooms have a view of the mangrove that surrounds the resort, or the gardens and swimming pools. Approximately 33 m², they are decorated with large, multicoloured bed spreads (quite soft), dark wood furniture, and orange and cream walls. An archway pleasantly highlights the separation between the bed and the lounge area. This cheerful ensemble is equipped with a large screen television with 32 channels (including some movie channels), a safe (at extra cost), and individual air conditioning as well as a fan, a mini-bar, a telephone, and a radio alarm clock. Covered in marble, the large bathroom has a lovely bathtub, a beauty mirror, a hair dryer and welcome products. Room service is only available in the club rooms (golden section).
Food and drink
8.10/10
The hotel offers two buffets. The main buffet takes place in the huge room near the lobby. There is a choice between more than 35 hot meals. It is worth mentioning that the restaurant has a 668-seat capacity. As the room is very large and well-maintained, it is easy to walk around the food blocks and to spot the meal you would like. The Tulum buffet is not very far away either. Seven themed evenings are offered: Italian, Spanish, Mexican, French, Caribbean, etc. Opening times: between 7.00 am and 10.30 am for breakfast, between 12.30 pm and 3.30 pm for lunch, and between 6.30 pm and 10.30 pm for dinner. On top of that, two snack bars and five a la carte restaurants offer a wide choice of food services.
Beach
7.90/10
The Coba's guests go to the resort's communal beach, 600 metres from the lobby. The Grand Bahia Principe resort has a beautiful beach, dotted with small palm trees and equipped with all the necessary facilities: more than enough plastic deckchairs, showers, and water sports (non motorised sports to protect the coral reef). The sand is fine and white, and the water is clear. However, two barriers (old ones covered in algae and new ones) are clearly visible from the sea shore, several metres in. Moreover, the lively cove means that the three hotels have limited accommodation capacity. Fortunately, the beach of the small seaside village of Akumal, stretching over just half a mile, is accessible from the hotel, around a 10-minute walk.
To know
The Grand Bahia Principe is a large complex resembling the Tukum, Akumal and Coba hotels. To really understand the size of the complex, you should be aware that the Grand Bahia Principe stretches across a total of 3,700 acres and has 1,100 employees. Various shows such as Broadway and Cats take place in the theatre every day of the week (with tiers and rattan chairs). A show is performed in each of the three hotels at different times of the day. There are nationalities from all over the world here.
