Just under 2 miles from the centre of Valencia, La Mozaira is an adorable 17th century finca just 800m from the beach in the middle of the countryside. With charming and comfortable rooms, a flower-filled garden surrounding a swimming pool, and much more, this former farm has been wonderfully revamped to create a very romantic little nest. It is truly one of our favourite spots!

    Location 5.47 /10

La Mozaira is located next to the little village of Al Boraya, 800m from the sea and just under 2 miles from the centre of Valencia, in the countryside. This is where tuber grows, which is used to make the famous Horchata de Chufa (a nutritious creamy white drink, served ice cold and popular all over Spain), the great speciality of Valencia. The airport is about 9 miles away, with a transfer time of around 20 minutes.

    Accommodation 8.45 /10

Every one of the rooms at La Mozaire is unique, spacious (nearly 30m˛), nicely decorated and very comfortable. They are actually each named after a girl in the family (Dominica, Gregoria, etc.). Rugs have been laid here and there on the bright red (terra cotta) floor, a chandelier hangs from the wooden ceiling, a plant decorates an elegant wooden desk, flowers have been placed on a wooden shelf, and the lace on the bedspreads is the product of local artisans, just like the cushions that have been handpainted. Guests sleep in a king-size four-poster bed and can watch television on the large flat-screen television mounted on the wall. Concerning the soundproofing, there is nothing to worry about. Not only are you in the middle of the countryside, but with 16-inch thick walls your neighbours will have to be really noisy to be able to disturb you! There is no terrace or balcony but you will have a beautiful view of the surroundings. If you are looking for a safe, head to reception, and to avoid the extra hum of electricity, none of the rooms have a minibar fridge but guests can help themselves to whatever they like in the kitchen. Room service is available during the day. If you have your laptop or tablet with you, you can surf the Internet for free thanks to a Wi-Fi connection. Should it get really hot outside, you just have to adjust the air-conditioning to your liking. The marble bathroom includes a free-standing bathtub, a separate tropical shower, a toilet, a bidet, Etro toiletries (an Italian cosmetics brand), bath salts, orange blossom, a plant, slippers and a hair-dryer.

    Overview 9.20 /10

Since 2010, La Mozaira has been welcoming its guests in a most romantic setting: a 17th century farm with a flower-filled garden, a 20m long and 1m20 deep swimming pool, a well and a cosy reading room with a fireplace. It is really quite lovely to take a stroll through the orange blossoms and other citrus trees. Several sun loungers are spread out on the lawn around the swimming pool in the shade of parasols. Towels are provided free of charge at the poolside and there are showers that guests can use. You can enjoy a bite to eat or flip through a magazine as you sit at the beautiful ceramic table on one of the cast iron chairs. This former stable has been turned into a flower-filled patio, just like the courtyard where the horse-drawn carriages would enter through a heavy wooden door that still exists, just like the stone wash-house. It has now become the winter garden where you can relax, have a drink or even enjoy a candlelight dinner if you like. Another spot that has been superbly preserved and arranged is the kitchen, which is very typical of the houses in Valencia: ceramics on the walls, azulejo tiles on the floor and walls, a fabulous fireplace, etc. In short, you're sure to have the urge to enjoy a tea or a hot chocolate with a lovely homemade pastry here. Note that the minibar fridge is located in the kitchen as well (being a little noisy, the owners didn't want to place one in the guest rooms).

    Food and drink 8.70 /10

Forget the buffets you find in hotels, here you are staying with family. You can eat when you want and where you want: in the winter garden courtyard, on the garden terrace, in the kitchen, or at the restaurant in the former stables (you can still see the rings for attaching the horses) under the watch of St. George, who is painted on the wall. Pillars, arches and red bricks constitute the decor. The nicely decorated dining room can hold 20 guests and the exposed stone walls are the originals (from the 17th century). What can you eat here? Typical local cuisine of course! There is the inevitable paella, but also freshly caught fish, meat, locally-grown rice, and fruits and vegetables from the vegetable garden. The bodega offers 35 different types of local wines. For breakfast, enjoy some freshly squeezed orange juice made from oranges grown in the garden, as well as some homemade jam and pastries.

    To know

You can park for free in front of the finca. A genuinely peaceful little spot, La Mozaira has a guesthouse type feel to it. This rustic hotel recommended by Condé Nast is typical of the Valencia countryside. The current owner is a direct descendant of the family who owned this farm in the 17th century. It is possible to go on carriage rides in the surroundings and the hotel has bikes that guests can use. Also, there is a computer with free Internet access available to guests as well as Wi-Fi access throughout the hotel, even in the guest rooms. Underground, not only does the bodega hold a fine collection of wine, it also serves as a home cinema, a television room, a discotheque and the setting for karaoke nights! La Mozaira is open all year long except for 24 December. The clientele is 40% Spanish and the rest is made up of French, Italian, American, Canadian, Swiss and Dutch guests.
