    Location 3.0 /10

The Agionissi Resort is located on Amoliani Island, a 15 minute boat trip from the town of Ouranoupolis. The boats' departure point is a 5 minute walk from the village. 500 people currently live on the island. Ouranoupolis is 2 hours by road from Thessaloniki airport.

    Accommodation 7.70 /10

The hotel has 62 double rooms and one suite, with a total capacity of 137 beds. The rooms are grouped into small white blocks - with Greek-style blue shutters - nestling on the hillside. Be under no illusions - you will have some climbing to do! The rooms are reached along paths and steps, which can be tiring for the uninitiated. Luggage is carried up by the staff, however. The rooms each have a balcony (table and chairs) and overlook the sea. The architectural design ensures a certain level of privacy. Indeed, even your next-door neighbour will not be able to see into your room. The rooms themselves are equipped with a safe and a telephone (internal calls are prohibited from midnight to 6.00 am). The hospitality products are provided by "Just Pure", a German brand of organic products made using natural essential oils.

    Overview 8.20 /10

Built in the 1980's, the architecture of the building is typical of the region, with white stone walls and a flat roof which pleasantly blend in with the local landscape. Today, the Resort is based around a main building, where you will find the communal areas - reception, restaurant, bar - and bungalow-rooms nestling on the hillside. In the main building, there is also a library, a small grocery store and a souvenir shop. On the terraced roof, the Agionissi bar has a 360° panoramic view. There is a big swimming pool (and a paddling pool for children) in front of the main entrance. The tennis courts and pony field are on either side, offering possible excursions for your children.

    Food and drink 7.70 /10

The Agionissi has two restaurants. Half-board meals are served in the first, while "a la carte" meals are provided in the second, beside the swimming pool. Breakfast and dinner are buffet meals served from 7.30 am to 9.30 am and from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm respectively, and allow you to eat on the large terraced wooden balcony overlooking the hills. Three themed menus are prepared each week: a barbecue, a Byzantine buffet and a meat/fish buffet. The "a la carte" restaurant offers Mediterranean cuisine with many fish specialities (fish brought fresh from the neighbouring fishing village), pasta and club sandwiches (for snacks). The chef prepares his/her recipes using the hotel's own organic products: fruit, honey, olive oil, wine and tsipuro (a local liqueur). The Panorama Pool Bar is open until 11.00 pm and the Agionissi bar, on the roof, is open from 6.00 pm until 1.30 am.

    Beach 7.70 /10

The beach is not very big and you should not expect the same kind of sand found in the Caribbean. But thanks to the quality of the water and the environment, it has been awarded the Blue Flag award. Nestled in a cove, its strong point is the way that it creates this sensation of privacy and tranquillity which make the visitor feel like they're the only person in the world. Unfortunately, it is not the easiest place to get to, especially if you are sleeping in one of the furthest bungalows - in this case you will need to walk about 350 ft downhill. So make sure you don't forget anything!

    To know

Shuttle boats connecting the island to the mainland operate from 7.00 am until midnight, with departures every half an hour. Guests with cars can leave them in the car park of the Xenia Ouranopolis hotel, which belongs to the same owner and is located just opposite the island, at the departure point for the shuttle boats. At the hotel, small boats can be rented to reach some of the beaches which are only accessible by sea, the uninhabited Donkey Island, for example, where you can go fishing or top up your tan in peace and quiet.
