Amy Adejokun Section editor

Built in 2008, this 5 star establishment covers 124 acres of land and is located next to the numerous gigantic hotel complexes of the tourist area of Kizilot. The immediate surroundings (composed of housing estates) have little to offer by way of charm, but the quality of the establishment compensates for this rather mediocre setting. Families and sport enthusiasts will be delighted by the facilities on offer.

    Location 6.0 /10

The Amelia is located approximately 10 mi from Manavgat, in the tourist area of Kizilot. Expect a one-and-a-half hour transfer from Antalya airport, located 56 mi east of the hotel.

    Accommodation 6.80 /10

This is definitely the Amelia Beach hotel's main asset. Over 90% of the 479 rooms boast a view of the sea. They are finely decorated in the Ottoman style and are spacious, with an average area of 20 m. They are equipped with a fully-stocked mini bar, a balcony, a safe (for a fee) and a flat screen satellite TV. They have wooden furniture and parquet flooring. The luxurious bathrooms are fitted with a bathtub and also include welcome toiletries. Room service is available 24/7. You should be warned that the soundproofing is poor: the traffic can be heard clearly from some of the rooms, even with all of the windows closed.

    Overview 7.10 /10

The huge light green building that houses the communal areas is particularly charmless, but it is easy to quickly forget the exterior once you get inside. The gardens are very well kept, which also makes up for the charmless exterior. The entire complex can sleep up to 1,470 guests and includes 4 swimming pools (3 outdoor and 1 indoor), with one 2,000 m pool shaped like a bean. Sports enthusiasts will be sure to find what they're after, be it tennis, archery, basketball, volleyball, or beach-volley, and all for free. They can then go and relax in the immense 2,400 m spa. Children from 4 to 12 years of age will also have lots to keep them occupied: for example, they can enjoy the large kids club shaped like an Ottoman palace. The spa covers over 2,400 m and boasts superb decor in the theme of the Thousand and One Nights. It includes a sauna, Turkish baths and a jacuzzi, all of which can be accessed for free. However, guests do have to pay to enjoy the ultra-modern games room, which is equipped with several pool tables and a full size bowling alley. As for entertainment, you will not be disappointed: there is a 20-strong team of entertainers. A show is put on every evening in a large amphitheatre that can seat up to 700 people.

    Food and drink 7.40 /10

The dining rooms are particularly pleasant and tastefully decorated. Both local and international, the cuisine is varied, refined and copious. The buffet restaurant can seat up to 900 people and has a nice terrace where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the sea while having your meal. There are also theme evenings organised several times a week during which you can discover some Turkish or Italian specialties. Don't miss the very copious weekly gala dinner or any of the four lovely la carte restaurants (Italian, Turkish, fish and Chinese), as you really won't be disappointed by the setting. The Chinese restaurant, with its red drapes, is worthy of a special mention.

    Beach 6.25 /10

The beach is situated just 250m from the hotel, on the other side of the motorway that runs in front of the main buildings. One big disadvantage: the only way to get across the motorway is to take the tunnel. Once you get to the beach, however, don't expect calm and tranquillity as the noisy traffic is a real nuisance. However, you will be able to enjoy all of the necessary amenities: deckchairs with cushions, straw huts and showers. It is likely, though, that you will find that you won't have very much space as the beach is overcrowded during the high season. Why not try the water sports club (for a fee) and enjoy one of the many activities on offer.
