    Location 8.58 /10

A stone's throw from Garoupe Beach, the Miramar is situated at the exclusive Cap d'Antibes, only a 10 minute drive from the centre of Antibes and the TGV train station. Allow at least 25 minutes for travel to and from Nice Côte d'Azur Airport.

    Accommodation 6.95 /10

Of the 14 rooms at the Miramar, eight are found on the first floor. Five rooms boast some sort of sea view. Each room is decorated using different colour schemes and materials however the general girly-French-country style remains consistent throughout the hotel. There are lots of soft blue and pink tones put together with crisp whites, from the bed linen to the curtains, while feature walls or retro tile designs in the bathrooms also have their place. Unfortunately the rooms are on the small side and the same goes for the bathrooms. However it is obvious that a lot of effort and care have gone into the rooms' decoration. Simply furnished, the rooms are without fuss and clutter to make the most of the space available. The quaint and unpretentious accommodation is also very clean and benefits from natural light.

    Overview 8.70 /10

Beginning life as a family pension in the 1940's, the Miramar is a cosy two-storey hotel with only 14 rooms. The only facilities on-site are a lounge and dining area with corner bar, providing access to two outdoor terraces. There are no real leisure facilities but then again, the beach is only a one minute walk away!

The small lobby features a small lounge area with large cream leather sofas that face a TV and piano. The room is decorated with art and flowers and with its yellow walls and green accents represents the typical Provencal style. The common areas such as this one are casual and simple to enable guests to feel at home. Next door in the breakfast room the exposed stone walls and wooden rafters give the place a very cosy feel. At one end guests will find a lounge area with corner bar which operates on a 'trust system' (see Food and Drink). The back door leads to an outdoor terrace with wooden deck flooring. It is surrounded by shrubs and hedges to provide privacy from the neighbouring properties. There is a much smaller terrace, accessed by the front door in the breakfast room, however it looks directly on to the street and is therefore less calm and less private.

    Food and drink

There is no restaurant however breakfast is served daily in the dining room on the ground floor or outdoors on the terrace. Not a morning person? The great thing at Miramar is that breakfast is served until 11:30am; a generous continental selection of bread, pastries, fruit, cereals, yoghurt plus juice and hot beverages. Meanwhile, the bar in the dining room operates on a trust system; serve yourself (the bar fridge is well-stocked), note down what you consume and pay later. Some examples of prices are a glass of wine for 4.50 euros (£3.95), a bottle of wine for around 25 euros (£21.95) and soft drinks at 4 euros (£3.50).

    Beach 7.20 /10

Garoupe Beach is a small, sandy beach at Cap d'Antibes and is only 30m from the hotel. Guests can access it via the street or via a private path that leads from the Miramar's terrace. Its size means it gets crowded quite quickly, especially in high season. The beach itself is found in a sheltered cove and is divided into public and private sections (private beaches require guests to pay a fee to rent a sun lounger and parasol etc.). The popular Josef Beach offers Miramar clients a 20 per cent discount off the hire rates for beach furniture. There are several snack bars and casual dining options for when hunger and thirst strike.

    To know

The hotel is open from March until the beginning of November.
WIFI connection is complimentary throughout the entire hotel.
For guests sans transport, there is a bus stop only 50m from the hotel. However the buses are not too frequent (one every 25 minutes) but the travel time is only 10 minutes to the old town. In the evenings, guests are obliged to take taxis.

It's somewhat difficult to review the Ambassadeur; it is currently undergoing renovations for its transformation into a Marriott Renaissance hotel, to be completed sometime in 2012. The makeover couldn't come at a better time though as some aspects of the hotel are beginning to look somewhat tired. However, with spacious common areas, a good location and newly renovated rooms, the hotel is more than halfway there.
