The Villa Vik is without doubt one of our favourite places to stay. The quality of the service and food offered at this little boutique hotel compensates fully for its location in a wealthy residential area close to the capital, Arrecife, in Playa del Cable. The staff here is extremely warm, friendly and welcoming - we felt at home straight away and missed it when we had to leave! The staff here really makes the place what it is. They go all out to help you and their intentions are completely genuine. The hotel itself is small and intimate, with only fourteen rooms upstairs. Downstairs you will find the la carte restaurant serving gorgeous food freshly cooked by the British chef. The place is extremely quiet and peaceful with a pool and pleasant gardens. The Villa Vik is ideal for guests wanting excellent quality service and food far away from the madding crowds of the resorts.

    Location 6.75 /10

The Villa Vik is situated between the airport and Arrecife, the capital. To get to the hotel you must take the LZ-2 towards Puerto del Carmen and keep your eyes peeled for a Villa Vik sign pointing through a petrol station off the main road. It is easy to miss though, so be attentive. Otherwise there is a small sign indicating Playa del Cable, which is also easy to miss. The hotel is situated in a small wealthy residential area where there isn't much happening. The nearest beach is Playa del Cable a short drive away.

    Accommodation 7.95 /10

There are two categories of rooms: standard double and two suites. We strongly recommend suite 5202 with its oversized terrace overlooking the garden and pool with an outdoor hot tub. The suite is large with a bathroom and dressing room to match. The furniture is of good quality and the decoration is tasteful. The marble bathroom with a large oval bath tub is of a good size with a skylight letting in plenty of natural light. All rooms have a flat screen television, a mini bar, a safe and Sutton and Foster bathroom amenities including robes and slippers. The standard rooms are a little smaller although still of a generous size with their own balconies and just as tastefully decorated as the two suites. The standard doubles have a double bed and sofa, a desk and wardrobe. All bathrooms have double sinks and bath tubs.

    Overview 7.95 /10

Villa VIK is a small hotel of 14 rooms that looks like a large house. The exterior is built in volcanic stone as is the custom for buildings on the island. This gives a natural feel to the buildings. Inside there is the reception desk, a bar to the right, the restaurant and the pool outside surrounded by deck chairs and gardens. The atmosphere here is very peaceful. Upstairs the rooms are situated on one long corridor split up by a statue in local artist, Manrique's, style. The entire house is decorated with unusual artefacts and a mix of tasteful furniture which makes it feel like someone's home. Back downstairs, there is on open veranda onto the pool. There are a couple of cast iron sofas with large comfortable cushions which make for an ideal place to have drinks after a long day sightseeing. The restaurant is sealed off from the veranda by glass walls. Outside, there is the pool with a couple of deck chairs in the water and around the pool. The gardens of cactus, bright hibiscus and bougainvillea also contribute to the serene ambience of the hotel.

    Food and drink 7.95 /10

The restaurant at Villa Vik serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Guests should warn the hotel about their meal plan as the hotel is rarely full and the chef isn't always present. Breakfast comprises of a buffet of cold cuts, cheeses and fresh fruit. Guests can order hot food from the kitchen. The British chef cooks up dishes of a very high standard and the restaurant has a good quality wine list including a good selection of local wines which must be sampled. Absolutely delicious. Everything here was perfect; from the immaculate and heart-warming service to the scrumptious creations of the chef!

    To know

Villa Vik is part of the Vik hotel group. In Lanzarote there are two other hotels of the same group: Vik San Antonio in Puerto del Carmen which is more of a resort (see our review of this hotel) and Vik Coral Beach close to Playa Blanca which is a resort of bungalows (see our review of this hotel). The chain also has hotels on other Canary Islands as well as in the Dominican Republic.

Villa VIK used to be a wealthy architect's residence, which is why it has been so well designed and why it feels so homely. It opened as a hotel in 2007. There is free Wi-Fi in the lobby and cable internet in the rooms.
