Your holiday will no doubt be punctuated with lovely surprises as you go on discovering this all-inclusive hotel. Casual but efficient and very attentive, the service (with a smile!) here is most pleasant: present, but not over the top; careful, but not too formal... It is the only all-inclusive boutique hotel in the area, which also includes a gourmet option. Location 3.0 /10

Located on the seafront at Bahia Petempich, the hotel enjoys peaceful and secluded surroundings. It is situated 5 mi from Puerto Morelos and 15 mi south of Cancun city centre. Cancun's international airport is a 20-minute drive away, and it will take 35 minutes to drive to Playa del Carmen, in the south.

    Accommodation 8.70 /10

The 98 guest rooms of the hotel are all very close to the sea and are fitted with a balcony or a terrace. They are elegant and simply decorated, in a soft and homogeneous manner. Incense is burnt here giving a pleasant fragrance to the rooms, which come in shades of cream, combined with brown or blue. Some navy or dark beige high headboards give the rooms a cosy atmosphere. A painting above some hard but very comfortable beds (king size) arranged with cushions and wooden furniture make these private areas complete. With an area of 29 m², the 60 deluxe guest rooms all have a beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean and its turquoise water, accessible via very pleasant little pathways. As for the 37 superior rooms, their area is close to 20 m². There are also rooms for smokers available at this hotel, as well as connecting rooms, honeymoon rooms, rooms for couples with two young children, etc. All of the necessary facilities are provided: a direct telephone line, a full-length mirror, individual air-conditioning, a free safe, a mini-bar with tea and coffee-making facilities, a radio alarm, a free DVD player and a flat-screen television (with 21 channels). There is even some popcorn provided for DVD nights, and a newsletter about the hotel. Another feature worth noting: the inclusive baby service. When the hotel staff are warned in advance about guests coming to stay at the hotel with a baby or young children, the hotel can equip the room with a wide range of amenities: a changing table, a bottle warmer, children's bathrobes, colouring books and crayons, a cot, a baby monitor, a pushchair, and a baby bath with adapted soap, decorated with an elephant motif. The small bathrooms are very contemporary, all white and equipped with a shower, a polished granite wash basin, numerous hospitality products, a make-up mirror and bathrobes. Room service is included.

    Overview 8.95 /10

Built in 1998, the hotel became the Azul Beach in 2004. After Hurricane Wilma struck in 2005, the hotel was renovated again. Neither too big nor too small, the hotel reached an ideal size with its new layout. The airy main building, with its high ceilings, offers views of the sea from its entrance. You will then come across a line of cream-coloured one-storey buildings. Pleasant and classic, their architecture is punctuated with a series of high palapa roofs (for the main bar, reception, etc) , therefore using all local materials. What is more, wireless Internet access is available to guests for £9 a day. Little pathways very neatly outline the lawn surrounding the various buildings, which stand lengthwise opposite the sea. All facilities at the hotel seem new, like the gym for example. Surrounded by wooden deckchairs, three pools are spread out on the hotel estate, including one dedicated to organised activities. The (indoor) children's club is large, with toilets adapted for young children, and the numerous activities on offer are fun and original (e.g. eating marshmallows on the beach). Children will also find various games, books and a television here. Additionally, outside on the beach, a slide and some swings await them.

    Food and drink 8.95 /10

Everything is à la carte at this hotel. There is only one buffet, served at breakfast in addition to the à la carte menu. The three restaurants are an invitation to taste international, Asian and Mexican dishes, one after the other, in a very pleasant and character-filled setting. At meal times, the superb decorations displayed on each plate are always a truly delightful sight. Once they are on the table, whether indoors or outdoors, you will enjoy every mouthful of this very varied range of dishes. The hotel also has low-calorie meals (diet specials), for no extra cost, and some children's menus. The beach serves as another area to enjoy some food which varies according to the theme that has been chosen by the hotel, which changes every week. From Monday to Wednesday, guests receive a packed picnic lunch at lunchtime. As for the rest of the week, a barbecue is prepared on Thursdays, paella on Saturdays, and on Friday, a fisherman arrives to the beach by boat to offer his catch of the day. You will find four bars at the Azul: the large one (with light meals, snacks and an aquatic section), where shows are organised every night, but also the pool bar, the beach bar and the indoor bar. The latter even boasts a refrigerated counter (with ice forming on top of it). One bar is entirely dedicated to alcohol-free cocktails, where guests can go and help themselves throughout the day. The fruits are freshly squeezed before your very eyes: taste and enjoy!

    Beach 9.20 /10

Standing on the seafront and seemingly gazing at the horizon, around ten statues serve as a boundary to the large and peaceful beach facing the hotel. The beach is supervised, and is lined with a series of hammocks, plastic deckchairs and palm-thatched parasols, and at least 16 huts fitted with nets and mattresses, for two or four people. This is a very pleasant place at night, because of the lights dotted on the ground. All the necessary amenities are rapidly available because the hotel is located so close to the beach. Service is ensured by a concierge especially dedicated to the beach, who is there to make the guest's holiday as relaxing as possible (they will go and reserve a massage for you, for example). The latter are performed facing the sea, in sort of wooden huts, with the winds wafting in the fragrance of the sea. A large choice of massages is available, and some are even especially adapted to expecting mothers. The immaculate white sand here sinks into the turquoise water of the Atlantic Ocean, fringed with waves. At some times of the year in particular, on the foreshore and in the shallow area of water, there is often quite a lot of seaweed, although the staff do attempt to remove this daily. The coral reef, which you can make out in the distance, makes it impossible for any motorised water sports to be practised in the area. The water sports club (set up in a permanent structure) does, however, offer numerous free activities, such as kayaking, hobie cat sailing, body boarding, and some others with a supplement, such as scuba-diving and sailing.

    To know

A concierge will be present throughout your stay. Our teams have seldom felt so much enthusiasm to work coming from the hotel staff. American and Canadian guests make up the main part of this hotel's clientele, followed by European and Russian guests. In terms of entertainment during your stay, a large choice of gentle activities is offered daily, including cooking, dancing and Spanish lessons. Evening shows here are also of high quality, with guest artists performing on theme nights (cinema, Caribbean, circus, Hollywood, Mexican and casino evenings). The hotel also has a shuttle which will take guests to Cancun (twice a week) and Playa del Carmen (3 times a week) for £6 per person.

Accommodation tip: avoid the rooms located on the corners of the building as these are smaller!
