    Location 4.22 /10

The Champion Holiday Village is on the western coast of Antalya (some 19 mi from its centre), in the village of Beldibi. The airport is some 25 mi away; allow an hour to get there by car (if there is not too much traffic on the coastal road).

    Accommodation 7.20 /10

There are three types of accommodation: the standard room (280 sq ft with two single beds accommodating a maximum of three people), the family room (same size but one more bunk bed accommodating a maximum of four people) and the suite (377 sq ft, two separate rooms, a bathroom and a shower and two televisions). None of the 244 bedrooms has a view of the sea, although, the pine forest alone is worth the trip. The facilities are sufficient (individual air-conditioning, televisions, telephones, payable safe deposit box - deposit of around £4.60 plus just under £1 per day for use - only the water is renewed in the mini-bar), the decor is rather traditional and sober (in beige tones) and the overall feeling is rather cold, particularly due to the tiles on the floor (and those of the bathroom walls is just brightened up by a few hospitality products).

    Overview 6.95 /10

The Champion Holiday Village, built in 1988 and renovated in 2001, nestles in the heart of a pine forest, which adds charm to this particularly quiet setting. The lobby is 1,312 ft from the beach. You can walk to the accommodation located along a central pathway where a few relaxation pools are dotted between among the mandarin and orange trees. The architecture of the buildings rather resembles that of monasteries, with some walls in grey stone, arches framing the ground floor terraces and an open-air interior courtyard. There is not much to say about the communal areas of the hotel: they are well maintained but not terribly exciting. The evening entertainment takes place in the amphitheatre, which offers a new show every day created by the team. A traditional Turkish evening is organised once a week.
As far as the mini-club is concerned, this is rather depressing, with its wooden seesaws on the bare ground.

    Food and drink 7.45 /10

The Champion Holiday Village offers an all-inclusive package, meaning that you can eat freely and at will (same offer on local drinks, whether alcoholic or not - only fresh fruit juice has to be paid for) in the main restaurant. Disabled guests will perhaps have some difficulty in reaching the buffet, as the only way of getting there is up quite a long staircase. The cuisine served there is local/international and changes every day. Parents can request a special meal for their children (between 6pm and 7pm). The number of covers (inside and on the terrace) is well in excess of the total capacity of the hotel (600 for 544), meaning that you will have no problem in finding a table at peak times. There is a tent outside where gözlem (Turkish crepes) are prepared directly. An à la carte Ottoman restaurant provides guests with an alternative for meals. It is free the first time, but you have to book in advance for this. There are three bars in all.

    Beach 7.70 /10

The beach is rather far from the nearest accommodation. It is not very long (some 320 ft) but the atmosphere is peaceful. The water is very clear and guests can enjoy diving in from the two jetties. This allows them to avoid the little pebbles you tread on when going in. The facilities are sufficient (deckchairs, parasols, etc.) and the view over the Taurus Mountains is breath-taking. Note that you have to leave a deposit of around £9 for bath towels and that boat cruises from the hotel, with direct departure from the beach and going to the islands opposite Tekirova, are organised three times a week (around £22 per person with a reduced rate for children). It is also worth remembering that the area is not supervised.

    To know

The clientele is 50% Russian and 50% European (Belgian, German and Swiss). Not many English tourists choose to take their holidays here.
For a little history, there is a bronze statue in front of the residential part of the hotel. It represents the Turkish freestyle wrestling champion, Ahmet Ayik. This multiple medal winner in international competitions such as the Tokyo or Mexican Olympic Games was the reason for the hotel being created. His family still live in the pine forest and he often stays there. In this case, you should be aware that it is impossible to access to the Turkish bath, which is of course reserved for the master of the premises!
